Children’s vision
We understand the importance of beginning good eye care practices early, which is why children’s vision is one of our specialities.
There are certain eye conditions that can cause permanent damage if not caught early, so we are committed to testing and monitoring children’s ocular health and vision as soon as we can. Now that school screening is no longer in place in every school, it’s often up to parents and professionals to take appropriate action to care for the vision of the younger generation.
Our care starts from the very beginning.
We’re all born thinking that the way we see is normal, so without professional insight, it’s difficult to detect any problems.
Children’s eyes have a degree of plasticity up until the age of seven, which means certain potentially permanent issues can be actually be resolved if they are caught early enough. Due to the perceived difficulty of children’s eye testing, many opticians won’t carry out assessments under the age of four. At Parker & Hammond, we’re different, and encourage parents to bring their children along before they turn three.
Looking ahead to the future of your child’s ocular health.
Our technology and patient-focus means that we are constantly looking to develop our services to cater for children, and are committed to helping our patients begin a lifelong routine of caring for their eyes.
Knowing what we are trying to achieve enables us to provide an optimal service, so when deciding whether a child’s vision requires correcting or monitoring, we weigh up the limitations and benefits of treatment – both for now and the future – to make the best-informed recommendation.
No compromise on quality of care.
If your child requires vision correction, we’ll make the process as easy and comfortable as possible. We offer a wide range of spectacles with stylish and strong frames, made from lightweight titanium or memory metal with sprung sides.
Our child vision expertise also extends to contact lenses for kids, and we have extensive experience in fitting younger patients. Along with conducting the test, providing the prescription and supplying the lenses, our specialists will also help prepare you and your child for using the lenses, ensuring you are comfortable with inserting, removing and caring for them, before you leave.
