Anterior and Dry Eye Assessments
Dry eye is a condition that most people think they have to live with, but there are treatments available to lessen the discomfort it causes.
Affecting 1 in 5 people over the age of 45, dry eye is caused when tears of insufficient volume or quality are produced, or the tear film evaporates too quickly.
The tear film coats the surface of your eyes, protecting them against infection and keeping them clear of dust. It also ensures that the light entering them is refracted correctly, helping to stabilise your vision.
Dry eye is a chronic but common condition, which we can help you manage with ongoing treatment.
If you suffer from dry eye, you might experience a burning, stinging or gritty sensation when you blink, with your eyes feeling dry and tired. They may also appear red, with excessive watering, intermittent blurred vision and sensitivity to light. If you wear contact lenses, it’s likely that this will cause discomfort due to a lack of moisture.
Causes of dry eye vary from patient to patient, but it is most often a consequence of environmental conditions. The most common root causes include air conditioned or windy surroundings, spending a lot of time in front of a screen, long-term inflammatory health issues, medicinal side effects, hormonal changes, ageing and pre-existing eye conditions.
We assess your symptoms and find a solution.
Dry eye can be managed effectively through continuous, long-term treatment, which can be prescribed by our expert optometrists after a thorough examination.
A detailed discussion of your symptoms, lifestyle and general health
A complete microscopic examination of the front of your eye and the tear layer
Tests to determine the nature and cause of your condition
The immediate delivery of assessment results, followed by a tailor-made management plan.
Treatment options and a full demonstration of how to manage your dry eye condition will be given, and we will arrange a follow-up visit to monitor progress and ensure you are happy with the results.
If you suffer from blepharitis, we additionally offer a specialist BLEPH-EX treatment. This is a painless procedure involving the removal of debris and bacteria that have accumulated on your eyelid margin, which helps improve the clarity and comfort of your eyes.
